Welsh Open mit neuem Format

Die Welsh Open finden vom 14. - 20. Februar 2011 in Newport statt. Gesetzt sind die Top 16 der Weltrangliste, wie sie nach dem nächsten Cut-Off Point am 12. Dezember (Nach dem 12BET.com UK Champiosnhip) aussieht. Titelverteidiger ist John Higgins, der letzte Saison Ali Carter im Finale besiegte. Zum ersten Mal werden in den ersten Runden des Turniers nicht mehr
wie bisher Best-of-9-, sondern Best-of-7-Matches ohne Midsession Interval gespielt. Diese Regelung gilt für alle Runden von der Qualifikation bis zu den Last 16. Viertefinale: Best-of-9, Halbfinale: Best-of-11, Finale: Best-Of-17.

We are using a range of exciting new formats this season to add variety to our tournaments and give them distinctive features. We have reduced the number of tables in the Newport Centre arena from three to two, which means that every match can potentially be televised by BBC Wales. We will be keen to receive feedback from fans and players on the new format.

Die Qualifikation findet vom 8. - 11. Februar in der World Snooker Acadamy in Sheffiel statt.
